Phase I - Reconnaissance and Surveillance Data Analysis

Using the data that the ILDC has already obtained from satellite observation of Donner and Blitzen you will complete a Surveillance Data Analysis Sheet. This information will be used in Phase II to write a proposal for an exploration of Donner or Blitzen.

In order to complete your Reconnaissance and Surveillance Data Analysis you will need to:

  • analyze the data the the ILDC has recieved from both Donner and Blitzen
  • complete an ILDC Reconnaissance and Surveillance Data Analysis Report

The ILDC has obtained large amounts of data from both the planet Donner and its moon Blitzen. Before any further development plans can be made, there needs to be an analysis of the data that has already been obtained.

Your team is looking for large geologic or atmosphere phenomena, such as cratering, dust, clouds, moisture, etc. This information will help your team to prepare its Initial Exploration Proposal.

Different features can indicate different characteristics about a planet. For instance:

  • volcanos indicate that there may be a variety of minerals and metal in a region
  • sedimentary rocks, erosion, and river beds indicate a history of liquids
  • faults indicate active plate tectonics

All of these features should be considered when selecting a landing location. In addition, you can look at what order geologic events occurred in to tell the story of how a landscape formed. Click here to learn more about the law of superposition.
